Immigrant / Nonimmigrant Visas

There are several types of immigrant visas, but the vast majority relate to a noncitizen’s family ties in the United States or potential employment.

Immigrant visas are almost always issued as precursors to green cards.

There are many types of nonimmigrant visas, which authorize admission for a wide variety of purposes and for different time periods ranging from less than a month to several years.

There are around two dozen primary nonimmigrant visa categories, which are classified with alpha or alphanumeric titles, using the letters A through V.
